How Much Should a 40-Year-Old Man Workout?

As a man enters his forties, the hustle and bustle of life, be it career pressures, family responsibilities, or even just the natural process of aging, can often make fitness take a back seat. Why Fitness Matters at 40

By the age of 40, our metabolism begins to slow down, muscles may lose some of their elasticity, and bone density can start to diminish. Regular exercise not only counters these changes but also reduces the risk of chronic diseases, improves mental health, and enhances overall quality of life.



The Ideal Workout Routine

  • Cardiovascular Exercise: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity a week. This can be broken down into sessions of 30 minutes a day, five times a week. Popular options in South Dublin include jogging along the coastal areas or brisk walking in our lovely parks.

  • Rest and Recovery: It's vital to allow your body time to recover. Ensure you’re getting enough sleep and consider interspersing your workout days with rest days or light activity days.
